Welcome to the Battle – The Invisible War

Hey everyone – OrthoJulie here.

As previously mentioned in some of our blogs, TeamOrthooxy are big fans/supporters of RealCatholicTV.com, and everything that they do to further  the Salvation of souls within the Holy Roman Catholic Church. I decided to watch one of their hour long videos while I ate my  lunch (which is a favourite thing of mine to do on my days off). Today’s video is entitled, and discusses “St. Michael the Archangel & Defeating the Enemies of the Church.” I have embeded the video below for you to watch.

I have also been watching Archbishop Fulton Sheen on YouTube, and his videos entitled (and about) “The Devil,” of which there are 4 parts. The videos are also embeded below.

In watching these videos, I have been thinking alot about how the reason for the state of the church today is that we have lost our sense of and distaste for sin. Many of our priests are preaching homilies with no real depth, no chastisement, no call to holiness. Abortion, homosexual marriage, cohabitation are being considered and accepted as normal in our society, and more and more Catholics are falling into this belief and practice. The striving for virtue has been essentially lost in so many people, with more and more people preferring to do as they please, following their every whim and desire. By doing this, we are giving Satan a foothold, and once we open the door a crack, that crack easily becomes an inch, and before long, the door is wide open. This invisible battle, or war, that we are facing is no joke. It is real, it is here, and it is doing unbelievable damage. Above all, and most importantly, it is causing countless souls to be cast into the pits of Hell.

St. Louis Marie de Monfort said that “The number of the elect is so small – so small – that were we to know how small it is, we should faint away with grief. The number of the elect is so small that were God to assemble them together, He would cry to them, as He did of old, by the mouth of His prophet, “Gather yourselves together, one by one” – one from this province, one from that kingdom.”

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, Doctor of the Church also said that “To obtain salvation we must tremble at the thought of being lost, and tremble not so much at the thought of hell, as of sin, which alone can send us thither. He who dreads sin avoids dangerous occasions, frequently recommends himself to God, and has recourse to the means of keeping himself in the state of grace. He who acts thus will be saved; but for him who lives not in this manner it is morally impossible to be saved.”

We need to understand and take to heart the gravity of our sin, and strive to grow in perfect holiness and humility. And we need to help others to do the same. Nothing else matters. God loves us so deeply and has given everything for us by giving us eternal life, through the sacrifice of His Son. We need to pray daily and commend ourselves to the Blessed Mother so that she may lead us to her Son, so that we may come to imitate Him. So get ready, gear up, and fight the good fight- “run so as to win”. I will close with a passage below from Paul in his letter to the Ephesians 6:11-12:

“11 Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

Peace to you,
