The Abortion Debate in Canada

I just read an article today on CBC about the abortion debate being reopened in Canada.  Check the link below to take a look at it.  Now here’s why I think that the Canadian government is fully aware that abortion is murder, but wants to ignore that fact under the guise of “choice” and “reproductive rights”

Looking at this article, here’s how it’s broken down:
1. Woodworth says, let’s discuss whether a fetus is a human being.
2. Tom Mulclair says the NDP is directly opposed to discussing whether a fetus is a human being.  Women have the right to choose.
3. Bob Rae says for the Liberals, this matter is up to individual conscience.  A person has the right to choose.

Oooooookay… did anyone not notice that the debate was not whether someone has the RIGHT to choose or not, but whether the fetus is a human being or not?  Doesn’t anyone else notice the subject jump?  Sounds to me like a guilty conscience.

Let’s say your favourite beverage was discovered to possibly have cancer causing agents in it.  In an effort to bring this to light, an investigation is opened to determine whether or not this beverage actually causes cancer.  If the company then said, “We are opposed to this investigation, because people should have the right to choose whether or not they want to drink this beverage”, wouldn’t that raise a few eyebrows?  Wouldn’t you think, “oh yeah yeah, you say this is about our right to choose to drink this stuff, but really you’re worried that if it is discovered that this drink causes cancer, that people will choose not to drink it, or that it may even be banned!”  We should only be glad to go through such an investigation, because it could be SAVING LIVES if it proves to be true!

So here we are just asking the question, “is a fetus a human being or not?”  and we should be glad to address such a question, because it could be SAVING LIVES if it proves to be true!  I’m speaking neutrally of course.  Naturally modern biology has already determined that a fetus is a human being, but even if that weren’t the case, there’s no harm in asking the question.  Seriously!  Come on!  Am I the only one who thinks that opposing this discussion makes NO SENSE AT ALL?

CBC: How the Abortion Debate Has Reared It’s Head in Parliament

About Fr. Steve

I am happily a priest of Diocese of London, Ontario, as of April 25, 2015! Hooray!!! Some people are afraid to ask clergy questions sometimes, because they are worried about "what he'll think of me". I am happy to engage in any discussions you might want to have with me about the faith, and trust me, I have heard and probably even lived many of the crazy stories people might share and am not seeking to look down on you, but to help lift you up, wherever you are, to whatever degree you are willing to go. It's about you, and your relationship with God. That is what is most important to me. Since the Lord loves you without qualification, I try to impart the same courtesy.

  1. I think what shocked me the most was one person’s comment on this article to the effect of: “Sure lets debate if its a human, say its a human at 4 months gestation, well fine, can it survive without extensive life support on its own? No! That means its not human, case closed” … I was like….so…our ability to survive unassisted determines our humanity? Good luck next time you need to go to the hospital dude, guess you lose your humanity if you ever need to be put on a respirator….Facepalm

  2. Excellent analogy! Hopefully this will help people realise that too often the tagline about a woman’s “right to choose” is just thrown around to avoid any sensible or reasonable discussion about a very serious issue.

  3. Regardless of your beliefs regarding the subject, the debate should NOT be re-opened.

The Canadian people have already discussed this topic before. This topic is not a hot topic for the Canadian people, and it isn’t an ongoing issue of debate in Woodworth’s riding. This is one member of parliament who wishes to discuss a topic no one else has any interest in discussing, and he is abusing the system to make it happen.

This is Woodworth using his public political position to push his own personal religious agenda, which should not be tolerated under any circumstances. If our leaders can’t be impartial in presenting the needs of those the represent, they need to be removed from office, simple as that.
